Bio.

Agathe Singer is a French illustrator based in Paris. She studied graphic arts at Duperré and Penninghen before working as a graphic designer. Over time she developed a passion for gouache and began to paint. Inspired by artists like Matisse, Le Douanier Rousseau and Frida Kahlo, she was drawn to creating worlds of vibrant and imaginary flora.

Themes of femininity, beauty and nature often dominate her bold, colourful work, making it the perfect fit for clients in the fashion, textiles, interior design and cosmetic sectors. Her client list includes Sephora USA, l’Oréal, Snapchat, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse, Anthropologie and Dr Jart.

Agathe's Process

Process: Step 1.

Agathe can produce artwork traditionally and digitally. However, the process always begins with rough sketches, sometimes in pencil to quickly explore ideas, or digitally when there's already a clear direction. The goal is to clearly communicate the intended composition, level of complexity, and key elements.

Once a sketch is selected and the composition approved, Agathe begins exploring colour through rough digital application. She typically starts with a reduced palette, favouring bold, contrasting tones, but this stage is also a space for collaboration adapting the palette based on the client's vision or co-developing a direction together.

The line work is refined, and the chosen colour palette is applied digitally to create a clear and accurate representation of the final painting, ready for client approval.

Process: Step 4a.

With a traditional approach, this is the stage where Agathe begins work on the final painting. Depending on the commission’s requirements, she will either paint the artwork as a single cohesive piece or build it up in separate layers for flexibility.

Process: Step 5a- Painting.

The final step is a high-resolution scan of the painting, which is carefully cleaned up digitally. This preserves the rich textures, subtle nuances, and visible brushstrokes, highlighting the handmade quality of the work.

Process: Step 4b - Digital.

With a digital approach, there’s greater flexibility to make final adjustments to the level of detail, or to move directly to delivery if a flattened file is suitable.

To preserve a sense of texture in Agathe’s digital work, additional texture can be applied at this stage if desired. The final artwork can then be delivered either as a flattened image or in separate layers, depending on whether it's intended for static use or animation.
