Originally from Tokyo, Yo Hosoyamada is a London based illustrator. She began her career studying architecture, graduating from the prestigious Bartlett School, before switching disciplines and attending the Camberwell College of Arts.
Since the switch, Yo has never looked back, and spent the last five years working as a freelance illustrator. Her work explores the intersection between illustration and space, often incorporating storytelling, spatiality, and bold colours. She has a knack for capturing both the intimate and innocuous moments in everyday life with careful consideration for lighting and surroundings.
Starting out with pencil thumbnail sketches, Yo’s process then switches to Photoshop once the composition is locked in. Colour is added next, fleshing out the line work and once that’s in place she works it all up in Photoshop adding texture and grain. She describes her works as emotive, dynamic and immersive. Having lost ourselves daydreaming of inhabiting her compositions, we couldn’t agree with that description more.
