Bruno's Process

Process: Step 1.

Bruno starts with a fairly detailed B&W sketch. Having all the elements present early on is a way for him to quickly figure out all the "drawing based" issues such as image composition, character poses, perspective etc.

Process: Step 2.

He then goes into a rough colouring phase, where he tries to "forget the drawing", and see the image instead in "wide colour strokes". He usually prefers working with a limited colour palette (ranging from 5 to 10 colours max). This can be a relatively long process, despite what it seems, due to the fact that he's constantly tweaking colour hues and contrast. It's trial and error to get the perfect balanced palette.

Finally, once he's happy with colour and composition, he starts the details phase. He refines any of the rough aspects of the image, based on the detailed rough sketch and the colour mock up and finishes the final artwork.
