The World Cup has it all: prodigious goals, dramatic decisions, upset victories, shocking scandals, and so much more. We were approached by US publisher, Insight Editions who were producing a beautiful coffee-table book covering every moment from the tournament's near 100 year history. The big question though, was what was going to be on the cover.

After some debate, it was decided that no individual moment or player could quite encapsulate the history of the tournament, so Charlie Davis was tasked with bringing together a cover that reflected four of the biggest moments and legends of World football. The composite illustration depicts Pelé's mesmerising 1970's Brazil victory, Maradona's scandalous 'hand of God' in 1986, Zinedine Zidane’s infamous headbutt in 2006, and most recently, Lionel Messi's prophetic victory in 2022. At the centre, the most coveted prize in football, the FIFA World Cup Trophy.

As England fans, we can only hope that Insight get in touch in four years time and ask us to update the cover to show Harry Kane hoisting the trophy aloft in the 2026 final.
