At Handsome Frank we're proud to represent an incredible roster of women, based all over the world and hailing from a diverse mixture of backgrounds and cultures. Their styles vary from bold bright graphics to delicate watercolours, as their distinct voices filter into their illustrations, with unique styles, processes and techniques.

In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day we curated a selection of their artworks for an exhibition at VCCP’s new London office.

Joël Penkman

Liverpool, UK

Hailing from New Zealand and now an adopted Scouser, Joël describes her paintings as "semi-photorealistic". Her work looks good enough to eat, jaw-dropping in their detail and depth. Her paintings are created in egg tempera, an ancient method which requires paint to be made each day by combining pigments with egg yolk.

What can we say about Malika Favre's work? Her instantly recognisable style dances with light and shadow, bold colours and sharp lines. It's not overstating to say that she has practically created an entirely new genre of vector illustration. Often imitated, but never bettered, Malika’s distinctive, minimal style always provokes emotinos. A bit of humour, a touch of sexiness, the re-imagination of the ordinary.

Michelle Thompson

Michelle is an RCA graduate who has built a name for herself as the go-to illustrator for collage work. Michelle creates her pieces with hand-layered papers and paints before editing them digitally. Clients return to her time and again for her ability to convey heavy, dark subject matter with a lightness and accessibility which is rare to come by.

Inspired by mid-century design and printing methods, Molly's work utilises texture and simplicity with structure and geometry. With a nod to Picasso's cubism, her work has a warm nostalgia feel fused with a contemporary style. Her process always begins with a pencil before migrating to Procreate where she adds flat layers of colour, reminiscent of the traditional screen-printing methods of the 50s and 60s that she loves.

Born and raised in the south of Brazil, Niege moved to New York in 2015 to pursue her dream of becoming an illustrator. A trained graphic designer and self-taught painter, it’s fair to say she’s succeeded in her aims. Colorful and fresh, her work is drenched in energy and exudes fun. It’s rich with textures and often focussed on her favourite subject matter - fabulous women and fashion.
