Tim McDonagh recently completed an epic and ambitious illustrative undertaking for New York Times, titled 'The Revolution Through the Eyes of Seven Everyday Founders'.
From the outset, the vision was bold. Working alongside historians, the project set out to tell the story of the American Revolution through the perspectives of often-overlooked figures who helped shape the nation, including Native Americans, ordinary soldiers, and men and women whose contributions have largely been left out of traditional historical narratives.

Tim collaborated closely with T-Brand Studio team to transform their storyboard sketches into richly immersive, cinematic illustrations. The result is an expansive visual timeline spanning 250 years since the American Revolution. Introducing history to readers via seven 'everyday' founders and drawing readers into their worlds.

Throughout the feature, Tim created sweeping, detailed scenes centred around each key character. The illustrations were brought to life through the New York Times' innovative use of parallax scrolling, with scene transitions and captions unfolding as readers move through the interactive timeline.

The project is testament to Tim's talents and a fantastic example of how illustration can be utilised as a immersive and interactive tool.
