We’re delighted to introduce The Wisdom of Birds - a beautifully crafted 40-card oracle deck and guidebook from Rizzoli Universe, illustrated by Raxenne Maniquiz.
Rizzoli have been established as an American institution since they first opened their bookstore on Fifth Avenue in 1964, before evolving into a publishing house a decade later. It's safe to say they have an eagle eye for commissioning top flight illustration.
For the uninitiated amongst you, an oracle deck is a flexible, unstructured set of cards used for personal reflection, daily inspiration, and intuitive guidance.
In this set, each card features a single bird species from around the world, set within rich, vibrant foliage and paired with an empowering message, drawing on global myth, folklore, and the natural behaviours of each species. From the patient heron to the hopeful bluebird and the perceptive owl, birds have long symbolised transformation, freedom, and spiritual connection, an idea now encapsulated in these unique and gorgeous illustrations.
Working from detailed briefs that combined scientific reference and storytelling, Raxenne created each piece through a process of reconstruction and artistic reinterpretation. She brings in her signature earthy textures and distinctive character, giving every illustration a sense of tangible, symbolic meaning.
