Some briefs request beautiful artwork. Others ask the artist to tell a story. This brief demanded both. Skittles approached Zoë Barker and commissioned her to create a playful illustrated (and animated) map of London to celebrate ‘Chosen Families’. The map spotlights the people, places and moments that have shaped LGBTQ+ history across our wonderful, vibrant city.
Zoë set about developing a series of individual illustrations, each signifying a featured location and telling a different story on the map. The result is a guide that encourages curiosity, celebrates community, and of course dials up the rainbow in Zoë’s bright, hand-sketched style.
The map was then tastefully animated by London agency Freuds, and rolled out on a dedicated Skittles microsite and across their social media channels. Special thanks to their creative team for their direction and enthusiasm on such a colourful project.
